The 3rd grade students were introduced to arthropods and some of their families, such as arachnids, insects, myriapods, and crustaceans. They observed these animals closely using magnifying lenses and made records in an investigation notebook.
After studying these animals, the challenge was to create a new animal by mixing the categories of arthropods creating what we called Mixthropods! It could be an insect with a scorpion's sting, a winged spider, a 20-legged shrimp, and so on.
Here you can see the great process students went through and some of the animals they created!
