In our third-grade SCTT lessons, we are exploring the concept of natural selection! We focused on green anoles and brown anoles and played a fun game to see how these lizards adapt to their environments.
In our simulation, we looked at how the lizards’ toe scales help them climb faster. The students took on the roles of the lizards and could see which one could survive ! Through this activity, they experienced firsthand how certain traits can give lizards an advantage when it comes to survival.
It was exciting to see which lizards thrived and which didn’t, helping everyone understand the key ideas of natural selection. The students reflected on which characteristics might be passed down from generation to generation, gaining insight into how evolution works.
This hands-on lesson not only made learning enjoyable but also deepened their understanding of the fascinating process of natural selection in nature!
